Restaurant review

7563 West Sand Lake Road
Orlando, FL 32819

They closed up... no longer there!!!  :(

We visited  Pizza Fusion on two occasions in July 2009 for lunch, on back to back Saturdayís. Pizza Fusion  is like a breath of fresh air when it comes to environmentally friendly dining. Itís refreshing to walk into a restaurant that uses a hybrid vehicle to make deliveries and uses (and knows what) biodegradable to-go dining ware is. They also use eco-friendly soaps, cleaners, and even recycled toilet paper and paper toweling. Right there they had me interested in the place. Plus, I had heard that they had vegan pizza, so I had to try it.

For our first visit we dined on a Saturday around 11 a.m. and opted to order a build-your-own large vegan pizza. Along with the soy vegan cheese we selected mushrooms, onions and zucchini for the toppings. And as if it couldnít get any better by having vegan pizza, most of their menu is organic! What a rare find. We also opted for starting out with a big salad to share and some fresh-brewed iced tea. The tea was great, as was the service. The salad was surprisingly large and tasted great. It was enough for us to share before the pizza arrived. The pizza was served in about 15 minutes and not only did it taste great, but it looked delicious as well.

The large pizza, along with the salad, was enough for the four of us to eat (two adults and two toddlers). Another nice feature about this restaurant is they have pictures and signs up promoting environmentalism. They also provided my two toddlers with eco-type picture books to thumb through as we waited for the food (one on global warming and one on animals). They loved the books, as did the adults.

It was great to find organic vegan pizza in a place that strives to be environmentally friendly.

Overall we rate this dining experience 5 out of 5 stars.

On our second visit, exactly one week later, we opted to order more pizza and skip the salad. We really had a taste for pizza that day!  This visit was also a Saturday and it was around 12:15 p.m. The restaurant was very busy that day, with diners and pizzas being delivered. Unfortunately, it also meant that service was super slow. The waiter that day was not nearly as attentive as the first time we visited.

We placed the order for the pizza within minutes of sitting down, since we had discussed what we wanted on the way over. However, it was around 35 minutes before we received our order. This was tough, considering we had two hungry toddlers with us and we were watching everyone around us being served, even those that ordered after us. Despite the slow and inattentive service this afternoon, the pizza was still great.

We rate our visit this day 4 out of 5 stars. The food itself received 5 stars, but the poor service brought down the rating.

Overall Pizza Fusion has a good thing going. They offer organic vegan pizza and an eco-conscious dining room and delivery system. Itís well worth checking it out, on a couple of occasions, to see what you think. As for us, we will continue to go there for the good pizza and atmosphere.
